Review: Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth - NLife

Added: 21.11.2014 14:11 | 28 views | 0 comments

NLife: "Atlus Megami Tensei series has been an RPG institution for over two decades, but to Western audiences its perhaps best known in connection with a numbered pair of revolutionary PlayStation 2 titles: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 and Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4. Starring modern Japanese high school students and integrating elements of dungeon-crawling and dating sims, lore rooted in mythology, tarot, and Jungian psychology, and an absolutely irrepressible sense of style, Persona 3 and Persona 4 are some of the most important and beloved JRPGs in the gaming canon. While 3DS owners have been treated to series stablemates Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers and Shin Megami Tensei IV, the Persona games proper have remained a purely PlayStation property until now."

SMT Soul Hackers Review | Aggressive Gaming

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers for the Nintendo 3DS is a game trapped in nostalgia, with glimpses of futuristic game mechanics. Well, it was futuristic in 1997 at least. Other than having way too long of a name, Soul Hackers is actually a revamped port of the 1997 Sega Saturn game. This isnt an entirely redone game (more on this in a bit), but it is a port with some fairly decent additions. The biggest changes from the original are the added voiceovers (Japanese is included), enhanced soundtrack, new endgame dungeon, and a little currency called D-Souls. Now D-Souls is something every 3DS owner will be interested in. Know all those dusty old coins you collect by walking around with your 3DS in your pocket? Now you actually have something to do with them!

Review: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers (DarkZero)

Added: 02.10.2013 2:18 | 37 views | 0 comments

"If there is one thing I have no shame in supporting its the idea of old Japanese games getting remade for current systems, especially ones that offer the chance to bring exclusive Japanese titles to the West. The idea that I am missing an entry in a series that I adore is a painful thing to think about. Just ask any Suikoden fan and youll hear them grumble about titles that never made it out of the Land of the Rising Sun. Having jumped into the Shin Megami Tensei games during the PS2 era, I had missed a lot of the history behind the series, so it was great to hear that Atlus were revisiting their catalogue and bringing fans the opportunity to play Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers (Im just going to call it Soul Hackers from now on, because thats one long title), a Sega Saturn and PlayStation title that has never seen the light of day outside of Japan until its arrival on the 3DS."

STN: These past few months have been all about the 3DS, often starved of titles, all if sudden there are too many to choose from, with the little handheld hosting some great puzzle and platform games and most recently, a spate of RPGS reminiscent of the old SNES games. Making its long awaited arrival on our shores, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers is yet another for the collection.

Geimaku wrote: "I think the hardest part about reviewing a JRPG is time. You need time to get a feel for it, the battle system, the story, everything. You also need to realize you live with about 8 other people who for some reason decided to start prepping to build a fence over the next 3 weeks."
